Cleveland Launches New Swim Programs for Infants, Adults, and Seniors
Facilities across the city launch new group swim sessions open to infants, adults and seniors starting this month.
How we reported this

Cleveland residents have signed up for more than 1,200 spots in aquatic fitness classes since registration opened on June 20.
City health officials point to the steady rise in demand for low-impact group exercise as the main driver behind the expanded schedule at public pools. Warm weather has pushed more people toward water-based activities that reduce joint stress while building cardiovascular strength, a shift noted in local clinic reports from the past year.
The Ohio City Aquatic Center at 3000 Detroit Avenue now runs parent-child swim classes every Tuesday and Thursday morning for children as young as six months. Across town, the University Circle Natatorium on Euclid Avenue added evening lanes for adult lap swimming and aqua aerobics on Mondays and Wednesdays, drawing participants from nearby neighborhoods including Hough and Glenville.
Options for every age group
Both locations also introduced senior water-walking groups that meet three times a week. Instructors use floating resistance tools and timed intervals to keep sessions at forty-five minutes. The Tremont Pool on Professor Street hosts a weekly family open swim on Saturdays that includes beginner lessons for ages five to twelve.
Local data from the Cleveland Department of Public Health shows group aquatic participation rose 22 percent between 2024 and 2025. A single eight-week session at either the Ohio City or University Circle site costs $48 for residents, with scholarships available through the Metroparks levy fund.
How to join a session
Residents can register online through the city’s parks portal or in person at the front desk of either pool before the next cycle begins July 15. Walk-up spots remain limited, so early sign-up is advised for the most popular morning slots. Those new to water exercise should arrive fifteen minutes early for a brief safety orientation.
